Online Betting Once Again Legal in Tamil Nadu

In February of 2021, the state government of Tamil Nadu added an amendment to the Tamil Nadu Gaming Act of 1930, effectively prohibiting all types of online betting within the state.

Following this amendment, it immediately became illegal for residents of Tamil Nadu to use betting sites like Bet365 and Betway, as well as online rummy, online casino, and online poker, all of which became prohibited.

The only exception mentioned in the amendment was the lottery, which would continue to be legal in Tamil Nadu.

However, a group of betting operators collectively filed to challenge the amendment at the Madras High Court, and in July the petition went to court, where it was struck down by the division bench of the high court.

In summary, what this means is that the prohibition of online gambling in Tamil Nadu was rejected by the high court, making it once again legal for residents of Tamil Nadu to bet online, play rummy, and more.

Online betting was prohibited in Tamil Nadu between February and August of 2021 - but now it is legal once again!

This is good news for the Tamils who want to join a betting site and place bets on their favorite sports such as cricket and horse racing.
